Monumental Bas-Reliefs for Skorbyashensky Memorial Complex of the Great Patriotic War

I sculpted these two monumental reliefs (total width about 38m) for the project of reconstruction of Skorbyashensky memorial complex dedicated to the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) in the Russian city of Ryazan.
The memorial complex was founded in 1985 to honor of the 40th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Main authors: architects Nikolai Istomin, Anatoly Buslakov, Vladimir Sytykh and sculptor Boris Gorbunov.
Unfortunately, at the moment the sculptural part of the memorial has fallen into a dire state (if not almost completely destroyed) due to the fragility of the chosen material. When the memorial was created, the reliefs were cast in plaster and never got a chance to be cast in metal or another more durable material.
The goal of the reconstruction project is not simply to preserve the remains of the destroyed sculptural part. The main task is to fully recreate the object in such a way that it would correspond to the original concept and tradition of the monumental sculptural school of that period. This is what I did, carefully preserving the original concept, key proportions and manner of execution.
